Joe Durham Named Interim Director of Community Development

GREENVILLE, NC - A veteran of local and state government has been named the Interim Director of the City of Greenville Community Development Department. Joe Durham took over the role this week as the City continues to search for a permanent director. 

Durham has held leadership positions in local and state government as well as in the private sector. He retired from Wake County government after serving 13 years as Deputy County Manager and Interim County Manager.  Prior to working in Wake County, Durham served as County Manager for Edgecombe County and held various leadership roles throughout North Carolina; more notably in the City of Sanford, Richmond County and the City of Rocky Mount.

"I am excited about working with the City of Greenville," Durham said. "Most of my work career has been spent working for or with local governments in North Carolina. I welcome the opportunity to be a part of the management team here and look forward to getting to know everyone."
Durham has also worked with the Wooten Company in their planning division and for the State of North Carolina in the Department of Natural Resources and Community Development. He currently is the President and CEO of Joe Durham and Associates, LLC, and also is a Senior Consultant with Developmental Associates, LLC.

Durham received his bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University and has also done graduate work in local government management at ECU and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
