Flood Promoted To Assistant City Manager

Greenville City Manager Barbara Lipscomb has announced the promotion of Merrill Flood to the position of Assistant City Manager. Flood has been the City’s Director of Community Development since 2004.

“In all of my experiences working with Merrill, he has always been very professional and competent,” said Lipscomb. “HeFlood has the respect of the employees and the community, great institutional knowledge, and will allow us to move forward with someone who has come up through the ranks.”

Flood started his planning career in the Town of Garner and came on board with the City in 1988. He worked in a variety of positions in Planning before his promotion to Deputy Director of Community Development in 1997. He was then promoted to Director in 2004 upon Andy Harris’ retirement.

“I’m very excited for this great opportunity,” said Merrill. “The chance to take on a new challenge, but within this same organization, working with the same dedicated, hard-working professionals is an opportunity I am looking forward to.”

Flood is a graduate of East Carolina University with a B.S. in Urban and Regional Planning. He also graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Institute of Government Municipal Administration course. He begins his new duties on Monday, September 14. His starting salary will be $132,835.
