Council Member Rick Smiley Completes Advanced Leadership Training

Post Date:03/03/2020 8:39 AM

Greenville City Council Member Rick Smiley successfully completed the Advanced Leadership Corps (ALC) training offered annually to select county and municipal elected officials by the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

ALC is a weeklong program designed by the School’s Center for Public Leadership and Governance. This residential program is a dynamic experience that helps participants learn about their own leadership styles, inspire others to work toward a shared vision, and gain insights into how to work together to build better relationships and achieve far-reaching results. More than 125 municipal and county elected officials from across North Carolina have completed this selective program since its inception.

“ALC was a great opportunity to meet other elected officials in local government from across North Carolina," Smiley said. "I met people from big cities, small towns, urban counties, rural counties, Republican, Democrats, and Independents.  All these officials are dealing with similar local government challenges involving streets and infrastructure and economic development and public safety. It was a wonderful chance to compare notes.”

Generous financial support from Prudential Financial allows elected officials from across the state to attend with only modest cost to the local unit of government.
