On November 9, 1998, the Greenville City Council established the Public Transportation and Parking Commission to investigate, review, and study the transit needs of the citizens of Greenville, on-street public parking policies throughout the city and the parking needs of the Uptown Area.

On March 8, 2021, the City Council dissolved the Public Transportation and Parking Commission. In doing so, the Council delegated some of the functions of the commission to the newly-established Multimodal Transportation Commission.
