Comprehensive Plan Update To Begin

Sometimes plans need to change, to be updated. The document that helps guide Greenville’s growth and shape its urban form is no different.

Greenville’s comprehensive plan, called Horizons: Greenville’s Community Plan but also known as Horizons or the Horizons Plan, is typically updated every five years with a major update every 10. This year, the Horizons Plan begins the process of a major update.

“The Comprehensive Plan is the City’s policy document to guide decision making in land use, transportation, and other strategic issues,” said Community Development Director Merrill Flood.  ”The plan is a living document that has been used extensively in the community since its initial development in 1992.”

The City Council approved the creation of a Comprehensive Plan Committee to conduct the work of updating the plan. On the Committee are City staff, local developers, business leaders, and citizens. Their first meeting will be held on Monday, June 1, at 5:30 p.m. at Sheppard Memorial Library. The public is welcome as observers at this first working meeting, but there will be many opportunities for the public to provide input and feedback during the process.
