Registration Opens for Citizens' Academy

Post Date:01/16/2013

The City of Greenville is now accepting applications for its annual Citizens’ Academy. The Academy started in 2007 as part of a City Council goal to promote a better understanding of and encourage broad participation in City government.

Students will spend six evenings and one Saturday with City staff learning about what the different departments do, how they operate, and where and when citizens can be most effective participating in the decision-making process.  Each session will last between two and three hours and will include presentations, discussions, activities, and tours of City facilities when appropriate.

Classes will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning at 6:00 on March 26, 2013.  One class session will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m.

Registration for the Academy costs $25 and will cover the cost of materials and light meals.  The class will be limited to 25 people.  Priority will be based on the following: residents from each of the five Council districts, order of receipt of the applications, and those living in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).

Applications are due by March 19, 2013 and are available at City Hall, on the City’s website at www.greenvillenc.gov, or by calling the Citizen Action Line at 329-CITY.
