Trash and Recycling
The City of Greenville provides weekly refuse services to its residents, including garbage collection, recycling collection, yard waste collection, and bulky trash collection.
Service to single-family homes is activated when someone inside the service area signs up and activates an electric meter with Greenville Utilities. Single-family homes automatically receive curbside service and must contact Public Works at 252-329-4522 or come by 1500 Beatty Street to purchase a City-approved cart to be used for collection.
Household Garbage
Household garbage must be placed in City-approved green rollout carts, which must be placed at the curbside by 6 a.m. on the service day. Carts must be removed from the curbside to a location behind the front line of the house no later than daybreak of the day following scheduled collection. Failure to remove carts from curbside may result in a $50 cart rollback fee. The metal bar on the City-approved rollout cart must face the road. Also, there must be 3 feet of clearance between the City-approved rollout carts and any other obstacle. The monthly refuse fee allows for one garbage and one recycling rollout cart. A fee of $10.00 will be assessed for each additional rollout cart.
Recycling
All recyclables should be placed inside your blue City-approved recycling cart. Carts used for recyclables must be placed 3 feet from the garbage carts on the service day. Recyclables can be co-mingled, and should be placed loosely inside your blue cart (not inside any kind of plastic bag).
If you are recycling cardboard boxes, they must be broken down before they are placed into your blue recycling cart.
Bulky Trash
Bulky trash pick up is available by appointment only. Single-family and multi-family customers should call 252-329-4522 to schedule a bulky item collection. This includes any items that will not fit inside of your garbage cart. Please remember that the City does not pick up construction and demolition/building debris.
Yard Waste
Leaves and limbs should be in separate piles and placed at the curbside. They should not be placed in the road or near any other obstacle. Limbs can be no longer than 6 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter.
