Greenville Announces New Music Festival

Hot grooves and cool jams will fill the evening air as the City of Greenville kicks off its first-ever Greenville Grooves Music Festival. Local jazz legend Carroll Dashiell (CVD) will bring his Contemporary, Motown, & R&B Classics Music Review to the stage of the Greenville Town Common amphitheater at 5:30 on Friday, June 13.

"I am extremely excited about bringing this music and show home to Greenville,” said Dashiell. “Music is the universal language and I've programmed something for everyone and hope that the many diverse people will come together in fellowship, fun and song. It’s all about family!”

"Carroll and his musicians are known around the world for their skills and sound," said Community Development Director Merrill Flood. "The music they’ll perform will weave its way through several genres of music, each with its roots in the African-American community."

"Greenville Grooves will be a celebration of African-American Music Appreciation Month," said City Manager Barbara Lipscomb, "We hope that everyone enjoys it and that it leads to more events that will help Greenville become a destination for great live music. It should be a wonderful celebration of great music that the whole family, the whole community will enjoy."

As always, CVD has some special surprises and guests in store. He says to, “Be prepared to not remain in your seats or lawn chairs!"

African-American Music Appreciation Month was originally started in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter and is a celebration of African-American music. Greenville is on the North Carolina African-American Music History Trail and was the home of jazz legend Billy Taylor.
