City Wins Budget Award

Post Date:02/12/2015

The City of Greenville has once again been recognized for achieving excellence in budgeting. The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Greenville its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its biennial budget document.

The award represents a significant achievement by the City government. It reflects the commitment of the City Council, CityCompass G Manager, and City staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, a government must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well the City's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.

This year's award was presented to Financial Services Director Bernita Demery and the entire Financial Services Department. Financial Services has also earned GFOA's highest award for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals.
