Public Comment Period Procedures

The City of Greenville provides a public comment period during each regular City Council meeting, allowing the citizens to speak for up to three minutes on issues that are not the subject of a public hearing in that same week. Sign up forms can be found outside of the Council Chambers before each meeting. Each speaker is called in the order that they register and is allotted three minutes to address the City Council for a total of thirty minutes. A public hearing, not to exceed 30 minutes for each side, may also be held if such a matter is on the agenda. Those that wish to address the City Council during a public hearing may do so by attending the meeting and coming forward to speak at the respective time either in favor or in opposition to the request. The first speaker on each side is allotted ten minutes to address the City Council and subsequent speakers are allotted three minutes for a total of thirty minutes for each side.
