GREENVILLE, N.C. — City of Greenville Chief Building Inspector Les Everett was recently appointed to serve on the North Carolina Code Officials Qualification Board, a board responsible for certifying Code Enforcement Officials (CEOs) throughout the state. Everett will start immediately and serve a two-year term.Les Everett

Everett brings nearly 20 years of experience, including more than 15 as the City’s Chief Building Inspector, to the 20-member board that is composed of engineers, contractors, inspectors, architects, educators, and city, county, and state officials. No city, county, or state agency inspector may enforce the State Building Code without being certified by the Qualification Board.

Everett is an alumnus of East Carolina University. He has completed numerous training courses during his career, and he maintains several professional building certifications. Everett notes that he believes his professional career has been based on education, integrity, and professionalism.

“While I promote the integrity and professionalism in our industry, the key part I feel has been the educational opportunities,” Everett said. “It’s not all about the books, it’s about learning from the experiences, working with your mind and hands, then relaying that knowledge to others in a positive, productive way. I have been fortunate to participate across the state in our profession while helping coordinate continuing educational opportunities, and now I have felt the need to try for the next step. This next step came in the appointment from the North Carolina Legislature to serve on the Code Officials Qualification Board. I will have the opportunity to participate in the development of inspectors and to evaluate specific inspectors and their actions when complaints are brought before the board. I look forward to using this position to help fellow inspectors value education, integrity, and professionalism, and to raise the profile of the importance of building code officials.”
