Chief Ted Sauls Jr.
Chief Sauls was born and raised in Greene County, N.C. He spent much of his time in Greenville and developed a love for the City. After graduating high school he would move to Greenville to attend East Carolina University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Being the grandson of a Baptist Minister and son of a N.C. Sheriff, Chief Sauls developed a desire to serve and would begin his career with the Greenville Police Department in January of 1997. Over the next 27 years he would serve throughout the department as a Patrol Officer, a member of the Downtown and Bicycle Patrol Unit, Detective, Tactical Patrol Officer, Training Officer, and every rank within the supervision structure from Corporal to Chief. His favorite position, and one that he notes as providing the very methodology he uses to command the department on a daily basis, would be the years he spent as a member of the department’s Emergency Response Team.
Chief Sauls is a proud father of two girls and gives full credit to his success to his wife Paula, who also served alongside him as a police officer for 25 years. He is a graduate of the 241st Session of the FBI National Academy, a recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Achievement Award, and has been recognized over his career as Officer of the Year and Greenville’s Hometown Hero. In is time away from work he is an avid outdoorsman and notes that it’s time spent in nature that always brings him back to center.
