The Community Relations Officer works to help build a better community as the staff liaison to the Human Relations Council and the Youth Council.

The Human Relations Council was created by the City Council in February of 1972, to organize and implement human relations programs dealing with the problems of human relations; to promote the equality of opportunity for all citizens; to promote understanding, respect and goodwill among all its citizens; to provide channels of communication among the races; to encourage the employment of qualified citizens without regard to race; and, to encourage the youth of our City to become better trained and qualified for gainful employment.  They have worked to increase understanding and communication among Greenville citizens since that time.  The Human Relations Council has undertaken several programs and initiatives to that end.

Every year, the City and its Human Relations Council (HRC) host an awards ceremony and reception to recognize individuals who have made a difference in our community and businesses or organizations who are working to provide services that strengthen our community and improve the lives of others.

During Fair Housing Month, the Community Relations Office administers the HRC's fair housing initiatives which include seminars for property managers, landlords and tenants to help ensure fair housing for all in Greenville.
