City Crews Continue to Fight Ice

Post Date:02/18/2015 11:40 AM

City crews worked through the ice storm to help ensure roads would be passable to traffic.

Public Works staff started their efforts before the storm even started, spreading brine on major roads, intersections, and bridges. Crews then worked hard spreading scrape major roads, especially leading from the police and fire stations to neighborhoods and the hospital. They also spread salt and sand to help the ice melt and provide traction on slippery roads.

As ice amounts varied from 1/2 to 1 inch in Greenville, crews focused primarily on major roads and those leading to the hospital before turning their attention to secondary roads. Meanwhile, Fleet maintenance crews worked hard to ensure the road teams' equipment stayed on the roads. Recreation and Parks employees cleared the sidewalks and parking lots around their facilities to ensure the public would be safe when they started arriving.

Big thanks also to the public safety personnel (Police and Fire-Rescue) who always risk their lives, especially when working through storms like this.
