GREENVILLE, N.C. — The City of Greenville is maintaining support of workforce development at Pitt Community College, and leaders of both entities gathered recently to celebrate the collaboration.City and PCC officials with a check

In its 2024-25 budget, the City has once again allocated $20,000 for financial assistance for participants in PCC workforce development programs. The funding helps to offset what college leaders say is the most common obstacle to entering the training programs — financial hardship.

"Businesses are always adapting and changing, and they need a workforce that is prepared to do the same," Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly said. "When we get new jobs, we want our people to be ready for them, and we think that his financial assistance will help increase participation in these workforce development initiatives and give people the skills they need to be successful."

Workforce Development at Pitt Community College (PCC) specializes in the training of both incumbent and prospective employees for the businesses and industries of Pitt County and offers multiple training programs to the general public to help prepare and equip individuals for the workplace. PCC works to maintain a close relationship with all community partners to understand their workforce needs and deliver training solutions customized to fit their business goals and strategies.

“The City of Greenville has actively contributed to the workforce development efforts of Pitt Community College," PCC Vice President of Workforce Development Ernis Lee said. "The City has allocated $20,000 to support Greenville residents in North Carolina through financial support for construction trades education programs. Our appreciation for this collaboration is immense as it helps us expand opportunities in response to the changing needs of today’s labor market."
