Nearly $2 million in renovations to one of the City's former fire stations were unveiled on Tuesday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly-named Dream Park Community Building.
The Dream Park Community Building was opened in the 1930s as Fire Station 2 for the Greenville Fire/Rescue Department where it eventually complemented a nearby training tower for firefighters. The facility, which ceased operating as a fire station more than 40 years ago, underwent a $1.78 million renovation during the past year after a 2021 structural assessment identified a need for significant repairs.
Following the improvements, the Dream Park Community Building now includes 5,300 square feet with a lobby, an office, restrooms, a kitchenette, a storage room, and an assembly room with a capacity of nearly 170 people. The facility will now be activated for rentals and future programming.
"I am proud to say that today’s opening of this renovated facility will breathe new life into this historic location, transforming it into a hub for connections and community spirit that adds another fantastic feature to the Dream Park," Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly said.
HH Architecture completed the building's design, incorporating unique elements like the overhead doors in the assembly room and brass in the restrooms as a nod to the building's original use as a fire station. Construction was completed by Farrior & Sons, Inc.
