GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Greenville Area Transit (GREAT) system will soon be expanding its service area to provide service to the Pitt County Council on Aging at the Alice F. Keene Center, as well as the Farmer's Market, located on County Home Road.

 

The change, which goes into effect February 18, will impact two existing transit routes - Routes 1 and 4 - to accommodate the new service. The system's other four routes will not be affected.

 

Route 1 currently provides transportation service to the Fifth Street area between Holly Street and Brownlea Drive, as well as First Street between Brownlea Drive and South Jarvis Street. Service for this area will be transferred to Route 4 as part of the change. This adjustment will allow additional time for Route 1 to provide transportation services to County Home Road.

 

Route 1 will travel along the current path trip from the G.K. Butterfield Transportation Center to Charles Blvd, but will now turn right on Fire Tower Road before turning left onto County Home Road. It will conclude the outbound trip at the Alice Keene Center, then return to the G.K. Butterfield Center along the current route.

 

"We are very happy to announce that we are adding service to our GREAT System," Public Works Director Kevin Mulligan said. "The Council on Aging and the Farmer's Market provide essential services to our residents, and we are pleased to make these locations available as part of our transit operations."
