A Greenville native, Chief Tyndall has served with GPD since 2002, rising through every supervisory rank within the department. He most recently served as Deputy Chief before being appointed Interim Chief on April 1, 2025. Tyndall has also held key roles on the Emergency Response Team as an operator, Team Leader, and Commander—a series of assignments he describes as pivotal to shaping his leadership philosophy.
Chief Tyndall holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice, both from East Carolina University. He is also a proud graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, 269th Session, a program recognized for advancing law enforcement leadership across the nation.
"Chief Tyndall embodies the values of integrity and professionalism that define the Greenville Police Department," said Greenville City Manager Michael Cowin. "As we considered the future of GPD, it was clear we had the talent internally to do the job. A national search was not necessary—Chief Tyndall has earned the respect of the department and the community, and we are confident in his ability to lead with strength, compassion, and vision."
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Chief Tyndall is a devoted husband and proud father of two children. His strong family foundation continues to shape his approach to service and leadership.
“I am honored and humbled to serve the city that I have called home my entire life,” said Chief Tyndall. “The Greenville Police Department is full of dedicated, talented individuals, and I am proud to lead them as we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
Chief Tyndall will be available for one-on-one media interviews today, May 28, between 1-3 p.m. To schedule an interview, please contact GPD Public Information Officer Kristen Hunter at [email protected] or 252-916-2096.
