Riding around the streets of Greenville and see a pothole? The City wants you to let them know where so they can get them fixed.
“It’s very common to have freezing temperatures create some issues with roads,” said Public Works Director Kevin Mulligan. “Last week’s sleet, ice, and snow mix has created an increased number of potholes and we want to get them repaired as quickly as we can, but we need the public’s help identifying where the potholes are.”
The City is asking people who see potholes on any street to call 329-4522. Smartphone users are asked to use the City’s new mobile app, City Compass, which is free and available from the iPhone, Blackberry, and Android app stores.
Communications Manager Steve Hawley said, “It’s never good to have potholes, but the timing for us is unique. This is a perfect opportunity for people to be able to download our new mobile app and be able to quickly and easily identify and report the location of potholes to the appropriate City staff. We hope people will use this new technology to help us locate and repair the potholes.”
Greenville has three or four City crews working to repair the unwelcome reminders as best they can. Crews will be dispatched within a couple of working days to handle City-owned roads. Information about potholes identified on roads which are owned by the State (many of the main roads in Greenville are State roads) will be sent to NCDOT for repair.
